The McCoy-Schreiber family of 3 had already been through so much loss and heartache when sweet Malcolm came along in October 2015 to complete their beautiful family. They had endured 4 miscarriages, as well as a stillbirth at 37 weeks.
When they first reached out to me about doing a newborn session, it was important to me to be able to create a unique image with Malcolm and his older sister together, while still including the 5 angels in heaven, as well.
I was thrilled when they asked me to capture both a Fresh 48 session, as well as a traditional newborn session.
Fresh 48 sessions are done within 48 hours of birth, in the hospital setting. It is a very intimate session, just capturing a family’s first moments with their new bundle of joy. There are no props or poses involved – it is all about baby and his/her arrival. Here are some of my favorites from Malcolm’s Fresh 48 session. 🙂
I met with Malcolm’s family 4 days later for his traditional newborn session.
Since Malcolm is considered a “rainbow baby”, I wanted to honor the losses before him, in a special way. Malcolm was born in October, and since pumpkins were in abundance during that time, I used those to symbolize his and his sister’s siblings in heaven.
“For my 5 angels. Including them is very healing, it incorporates something typically hidden that was so big a part of our lives, puts it into shape and form and recognizes them in our reality…” ~ Malcolm’s mommy
Malcolm was so incredibly sweet, I even got a little grin out of him! 🙂
Congratulations, McCoy-Schreiber family, and thank you for choosing me to capture these memories for you!!
