Giving Back, Week One {Kingman, AZ Photographer}

November is the month for thankfulness, and this mama is thankful for so much….

Thankful for each of my beautiful children, my supportive husband, and my amazing parents.  Thankful for this wonderful country that I live in, the people whose job it is to protect and serve the community in which I live, the people who care for my family whenever we are sick, the people who care for my children, as if they are their own, while at school…

Really, there is SO much to be thankful for!

When I was teaching, community helpers was one of my favorite thematic units to talk about every year.  The doctors, the teachers, the veterinarians, the lawyers, the firemen, the post office workers, the nurses, the police officers…we discussed them all!  All of these people play such an important role in a community, so this November, I want to give back in a BIG way.

Ya’ll know me and how much I love giving back – hey, I actually used to want to BE Oprah just so I could tell everyone, “You get a car! You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!”, but alas, I became a teacher and I could barely afford my own car, hahaha! 😉

So anyway, I have chosen four of my favorite community helpers, and will be giving away {FOUR} $150 gift certificates to some lucky community helper peeps this month, all because I want to say “Thank you!” for being such an awesome contributor to our little community.

To start off the first week, of course I am going to pick one that is dear to my heart.

Teachers, let me tell you, you are amazeballs!!!  You are the ones whom are expected to perform miracles every day, care for each and every child as if they were your own, and teach them a crazy and insane amount of standards in only 180 days.  You go without pay during holidays, fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks.  You take home papers to grade almost every night.  You spend your extra money on school supplies for your students, and come in weeks before school even starts to get your classrooms ready, all without pay.  You are the best multi-taskers I have ever met in my life, and some of the most kind souls I will ever have the pleasure of knowing.

This week is all about my crazy-organized, school supply-obsessed, creative-minded, and kind-hearted teacher friends!

If you know a teacher you would like to nominate to win a $150 gift certificate to use towards a future session with Sweet Peas Photography, please tell me about him/her!  Fill out the contact form on this site, letting me know who they are and why they are so deserving.  I will pick a winner on Monday, November 9.

Oh, and please take the time to thank a teacher.  Nothing feels better to them than having a parent or student reach out to them and tell them “thank you” and that you appreciate them. 🙂

    I nominate Anna Collin’s for your teacher week. She is an elementary school teacher. I had her as my 4th grade teacher and I still use the lessons she taught me. I feel a teacher that can make that kind of impact on a student all these years later deserves some recognition. She is smart and kind and one of the greatest teachers I have ever met.ReplyCancel

    I would like to nominate Joy Yurcina. She’s not only the owner of the Preschool/Daycare Little Brick Schoolhouse but also the Preschool teacher. She takes such great care of the kids that she teaches and ensures that they are taught in a way that makes it fun. My son was prepared for Kindergarten because of the time he spent with her. She is always friendly, smiling and happy. She makes kids comfortable and is always there to make their day. She ensures a safe environment for the kids we entrust her with. I could never repay her for the days my son spent with her and my daughter soon will. She’s the absolute greatest. To know Joy is to love her!!ReplyCancel

    Hi Heidi! I want to nominate Nona King for this year’s teacher give away. Mrs. King has helped my family to no end! My daughter had a horrible time last year with her health. She had an ileus, a seizure and SO many tests. She was also misdiagnosed at first with a life threatening disease , which has now been down graded to a manageable disease that she’ll always have. But through all that Mrs. King was always by our side. She checked in on my daughter, and my family. She helped us to ensure she would still be able to move on with her class. She even did research on th disease to know what WE were up against. I say we because she was in this fight with us. She was with our family from day one and continues to check on her despite the fact that she’s no longer her teacher. I truly am beyond thankful for Mrs. King and all her help to my family during one of the scariest times of my life. If anyone deserves this I feel she does.ReplyCancel
