As a Kingman Newborn Photographer, I always try to include every pose in my Sweet Peas Photography newborn sessions. Most people don’t know that each pose has a name, so I thought it would be fun to do a blog post on all of the newborn poses that newborn photographers use in their workflow.
“Bum Up”
This is one of my favorite poses to do. I love how sweet they look when they are scrunched up, with their back rolls, and their little toes peeking out.
“Froggy”
This pose is one of my most requested, but can be tricky to get if baby isn’t sleepy enough.
“Potato Sack”
This pose is also one of my favorites. It got its name because the babies look like a little sack of potatoes in this pose. 🙂
“Head on Hands”
This pose is also one of my most requested, and can be done on a posing surface, as well as in boxes and buckets, too.
“Side Lying”
Another favorite of mine, that allows for more variations of the pose, using wraps and changing their hand placement.
“Wrapped”
Whenever baby is awake, I will generally start with potato sack or wrap them like this. Some babies just love being wrapped, because it helps them feel more secure.
“Parents”
All of my newborn sessions include parent, family, and sibling poses.
“Huck Finn”
I’m not sure how this pose got its name, because it doesn’t really remind me of the character from the book, but nevertheless, it is a super sweet pose. <3 I don’t do this pose often enough!
“Props”
Prop poses are some of my favorites, but especially the ones that include buckets!
“Siblings”
Those adorable sibling photos are a big deal for my clients who book their newborn sessions with me. That is why these poses are included in every newborn session.
“Family”
Most clients who book newborn sessions know that it’s the perfect opportunity to update those family pictures, and I completely agree!
“Womb/Taco”
This pose was named because it’s how babies naturally curl up in their mother’s womb.
Which pose is YOUR favorite???
Newborn Photography is so special to me. As a mother to four, I know all too well how fleeting those moments are in the first few weeks. It’s so important to preserve those memories, to look back on and cherish year after year.
