Giving Back, Week Four {Kingman, AZ Photographer}

Well, it’s the last week (week four) of my Giving Back contest, and I have chosen another profession very near and dear to my heart.

These people are the ones who take care of you when you are at your most vulnerable point in life.  When we are sick, we trust that they will know how to help us feel better….our nurses!

Our third child was a preemie, and spent a week in a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) in Phoenix after he was born.  It was probably the scariest time of our lives, but what made it just a little easier to deal with, were his nurses.  They were caring, thoughtful, and became confidantes and friends, even in the short week we were there.

Every morning, we would walk in with the weight of the world on our shoulders, our eyes puffy and red from crying all day/night.  They welcomed us, consoled us, and helped us navigate through that tough time in our lives.

When the helicopter company called the NICU that first day, trying to track us down in order to get our insurance information for payment of his $15,000 flight from the hospital where I delivered to the hospital in Phoenix, which was better equipped to handle preemies, those women immediately stood up for us, taking the call themselves, telling the company that right now was not the appropriate time to be asking us such questions.

I remember spending part of our Fourth of July in the NICU at Cohen’s tiny little bedside. The nurses spoke about Fourth of July festivities, and anything else to help us keep our minds off of mounting medical bills, allowing us to better focus on our brand new baby boy.

I remember the way they cared for our sweet boy, the way they talked to him, fed him, and cuddled him.  I really felt that they loved him almost as much as we did.

Thank you, dear sweet nurses everywhere, for everything.  You work tirelessly and, most of the time, it is a thankless job, but this mama wants you to know that I appreciate everything ya’ll do!

Help me thank a nurse and his/her family by nominating them to receive a $150 gift certificate towards a future session with Sweet Peas Photography.  Fill out the contact form, telling me who you are nominating and WHY.  A winner will be picked on Monday, November 30.

    (I think I accidentally submitted this before I was done).
    I want to nominate my sister-in-law, Kristine Wilson. She is an RN at the KRMC ER. Kristine is an amazing mom to my almost 3 year old nephew and she is currently about 5 months pregnant with her second child (another boy). I can’t imagine working in the ER while being pregnant, I would be complaining and miserable. Not Kristine. She does it with a smile on her face. She is helping to save lives every day and she is sweet and kind while she is doing it. She works nights so that she can spend the mornings with her son. She barely sleeps so that she can spend that precious time with him. I have never heard her complain once. In fact, since she has been pregnant I have had to beg her to let me watch her son so that she can rest before work. Kristine recently finished her BSN, while raising a toddler and working full time.
    I am so blessed to have Kristine as my Bonus Sister. She was not born in to my family but we were lucky enough to have her marry my brother.
    Thank you!ReplyCancel

    I would like to nominate Richelle Steele. She is a labor and devilery nurse at KRMC. She is a mother of 2 and married to her high school sweetheart. She is so compassionate about her job and absolutely loves her patients and never complains. We have been friends for almost 20 years and I admire her in so many ways. She deserves a photo shoot because she hardly ever takes time for herself.ReplyCancel
