My Life, Documented.

As a photographer, I don’t get many chances to be IN the pictures with my kids.  In fact, this is pretty common amongst most moms out there, too!

Almost two years ago, I started following Katie Myrick Photography.  I was intrigued when she recently started putting HERSELF in her images with her kids, and it inspired me to do the same.  So, I bought a tripod and started setting my timer on my camera, to get those pullbacks of everyday life with my family.

My third child is by far my most mischievous, and really such a ham in front of the camera; he has already requested that we buy him a camera for his fifth birthday! 😉 I think he is looking at the camera or making a funny face in every image I have taken so far in the past couple of months, but this one is as close to being a fly on the wall as possible in my house, and I love it dearly.

Life, Documented. There are SO many things I could pick apart about myself in this image (I obviously have a double chin now, which is something I had no idea that I had before I opened this image to edit it…note to self, get a gym membership! 😉 ), but twenty years from now, my kids won’t be looking at what is wrong with me; they will be admiring the tender moments amongst a mother and her children…THEIR mother…that I have captured on film for them to keep and share with their own children someday. IMG_5375web Life truly is so fleeting, and it has always been important to me to document it in any way that I could, whether it be with photographs, home videos, or scrapbooks.  Even with four children, I can easily say that each one of my children have baby books that have been filled out thoroughly and completely.  See what I mean??  Documenting things has always been important to me.  So, why not show that I was there for these things, too?!?  Well, that is EXACTLY what I’m going to do now.  I’m going to show my life.

The laundry that sits on my couch for days, ready to be put away.

That opened beer bottle on the kitchen counter, because it’s been one heck of a stressful day.

That pile of mail by the sink that I have yet to go through.

Homework adorning the kitchen table, with an empty chair next to it, because the kids are off playing outside, avoiding it like the plague.

That clock, showing ten past five, which shows that I am late for serving dinner, yet again.

IMG_6086web I doubt she will ever read this, but just in case she does, thank you, Katie.  You are such an inspiration to me, and your blog post totally hit the nail on the head, giving me the oomph I needed to get this whole thing started.

If you haven’t read the post I am talking about, you can find it HERE.  Trust me, it will change your life.
