Well, it’s week two of my Giving Back contest, and my next favorite community helper really is the jack of all trades!
I am so fortunate to know so many of these brave men and women, and call a good number of them, my friends. My youngest son, whom is 5 years old now, is obsessed with their form of transportation. 😉
I am talking about the people who do it all, from rescuing cats from trees (not really, but I bet they would if there was a kitty out there in need! 😉 ), to fighting fires, to saving people’s lives….our firefighters.
They literally respond to every call imaginable – I should know, because one time a gigantic metal awning flew from our neighbor’s yard and landed on top of our house, and they had to come and take it off, piece by piece! Yes, Kingman’s wind is that strong! Anyway, when they aren’t out on a call, they enjoy educating the community’s children on fire safety. They go out and talk to children at the area’s schools, and also offer tours of the fire stations, as well.
Our good friends, Brad and Curt, are both firemen, and happened to be on call last Easter. We decided to pay them a visit and bring them some home baked goodies, and take a tour of the fire station with our 4 children, while we were there. My kids loved being able to try on the heavy gear that they have to wear, and enjoyed sitting in the fire truck, turning the lights on, and honking the horn. My youngest son even got to operate the fire hose, with Fireman Brad’s help, of course! To this day, he still talks about that trip to the fire station, and I just adore this snapshot of him with Brad. 🙂
Fire fighters have such a difficult job, and most people are not aware of the hardships they face or witness daily. There is so much heartache that they witness firsthand, which I imagine is why they look forward to those positive moments that they are able to share with the community, by teaching fire safety and talking to children about what they do for a living. I’m sure it helps make their jobs a little easier at times.
So, this week help me celebrate these amazing people! Fill out the contact form on my website if you know of a deserving fire fighter and his family, and tell me WHY you chose this person. I will be picking a winner on Monday, November 16. And please, thank your fire fighters, for everything they do! 🙂
